The Key Elements Of The Slip Ring Selection Process


      The slip ring selection process is not as simple as it seems on the surface. There are certain parameters or let's just say key aspects which are needed to be kept in mind before choosing a slip ring. It is not just the physical design pattern of the equipment that determines the choice of the slip ring, the functionality aspect of the device at hands needs to be taken into consideration for choosing the right set of the slip ring.

The size parameter of choosing a slip ring

The choice of slip ring depends on the size requirement, which on the fringes include factors like sensor count and the rotating speed parameter. The numbers of sensors required for the data system depends on the number of contacts. For an instance, in a situation, where you will require a total of 108 sensors (with an assumption that two wires for a single sensor) you will require a 216 contact slip ring. Having said that, the number of channels in the slip ring can be increased through an alteration process which is generally referred to as a switching mechanism. Now it is obvious that the users will have a question regarding how to determine situation where they would need an increase in contacts? To answer the situation, such situation arises, especially, for rotating reference junctions or static strain precursor transducers as they require a minimum of three to four wire sensors.

External environmental factor

Having discussed an internal aspect, which determines the choice of the slip ring. It becomes necessary to assess the external environmental condition which also plays a crucial role in choosing a slip ring.  The environmental condition does take a great toll on the slip ring in use, so first and foremost, the slip ring manufacturer constructs a slip ring keeping in mind harsh conditions, especially, the external surface. Conditions such as humidity and moisture for long have plagued the efficiency of the slip ring used in any sophisticated equipment. For an instance, if we consider turbine generators which uses turbine slip ring operate in humid and moist conditions, which adversely affects the overall process of harnessing wind energy. Another such example is the defense slip ring which is used in extremely tough conditions. Thus, for tackling such situation only those type of slip rings must be used which have the external surface made up of corrosion resistant metal. Also, the shieldings provided to the slip ring along with the insulation material in the chosen slip ring must be of high quality as it eliminates the entry of moisture in the system and takes any sort of dust accumulation out of the equation.

      But the real question is what does this slip ring incorporate, that enhances their efficiency to transmit signal and in turn, increase the operational efficiency of the device at-large? Now, the reason for such increased efficiency is the inclusion of cooling fluids which establishes the temperature level in the entire transmission process.
